Alex Chalmers is a Managing Partner at Iron Bridge Capital Partners, a Charleston, SC based private equity manager focused on real estate and technology investments. Iron Bridge is currently developing the first dedicated class A office building in Charleston focused on tech and tech-related businesses.  

Previously he was a founder of Avenida Capital, a New York based real estate investment platform focused on Latin American multi-family, office and retail projects. At Avenida he built the platform to over $350 million across two real estate funds and co-investments.  

Previous to Avenida he was a Principal in the Strategic Capital Opportunities group at investment bank Jefferies & Company working with fund managers to raise and invest over $3 billion across US buyout, growth equity, venture and real asset strategies. Over his career he has developed a world-class network of institutional investor and family office relationships in the US, EU, Latin America, Middle East and Asia.

Prior to Jefferies he was a Senior Vice President in the M&A group at Silicon Valley Bank leading sell side transactions of venture portfolio companies to public acquirers such as Verifone (PAY), First Data (FDC) and Qualcomm (QCOM). He started his career in Silicon Valley as a software programmer at the Oracle Corporation. He is also the founder of Bright Light Systems, a venture backed industrial lighting and software controls company for which he received patents in the field of high mast lighting. He is an active member of YPO and is a frequent speaker at real estate and venture conferences.

Alex holds an MBA from the University of Michigan and an BA from the University of Southern California.
